I was looking at an aspect that I've always noticed on the On The Night dvd that sounds artificial, and I'd like to share with you.
Guy himself said on his forum that they didn't do anything with it, but it doesn't sound as alive as alchemy... It feels different, like they process the sound somehow, definitely a lot of post-production, it doesn't sound at all a little live.
So, on that aspect, I discovered something curious about OTN's Calling Elvis. I was analyzing the presence of the second microphone on the pedestal, which I noticed in the song YAYF, and at the same time I noticed that in every song at Feyenoord Stadium, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, this second microphone is present on Mark's pedestal. I started looking at YAYF, then followed the sequence: MFN, BIA, SR, WT, when I returned to Calling Elvis, I noticed something very interesting: Calling Elvis video starts and the second microphone is there on the pedestal, at 2:49 shows a short scene where this mic is absent, so scenes continue with the mic present when it arrives at 4:50, another short scene with the second mic absent; following scenes, microphone present, however, everything is very evident in the second solo, where there is a lot of improvisation on the guitar, and several scenes where the second microphone is shown on the pedestal and others where it is not present, as in (angle) 6:42 , (angle) 6:52, (angle) 6:58, (angle) 7:02, (angle) 7:05, (angle) 7:12, (angle) 7:15, (angle) 7: 20, (7:25 ... I made comparisons between the OTN CL with the Audio CL of Bootlegs Nimes FRA 21.05.92 and Rotterdam, Netherlands 5/31/1992, to complement my research and reach this conclusion.
And to think that I discovered this because of the presence or absence of a microphone! 😀
One thing is for me, I always felt something strange and quite artificial in this OTN Calling Elvis performance, now I understand why, it's not a whole song, it's all mutilated, a well done montage, quite the opposite of The Alchemy, it has lots of overdubs, it must have been a lot of effort to merge the scenes, sync, edit audio and video.
